A little guidance.
Mac private beta and iPhone early beta.
Contact hello@ottiyo.com.
Getting started on Mac
- Confirm your profile, country and period in Settings.
- Import a statement in Import and check the mapping and duplicate choices.
- Review suggested merchant groups and apply your tags.
- Add and match receipts, then choose tags and dates in a workspace.
- Resolve preparation checks before exporting. A draft export can retain outstanding issues for review.
Use the numbered guides at the top of each section to move to the next action. Guides and otter characters can be hidden in Settings.
Getting started on iPhone
The iPhone app is an early local beta, installed through a development or testing arrangement. It is not an App Store download. Access and signing availability are confirmed individually.
- On Home, use Scan receipt, Photos or Files to add an original.
- Compare extracted details with the original. Correct the merchant, date, amount and currency as needed.
- Add tags and save the checked receipt. Finish lets you leave review and return later.
Extraction can be incomplete. Missing or ambiguous details need your input. A tag or suggested match never confirms tax treatment.
Move receipts between iPhone and Mac
- In Mac Build 37 or later, open Settings → iPhone and export a library snapshot.
- Transfer the .ottiyo file using a method you choose, such as AirDrop or Files, then import it on the phone and confirm the library.
- Prepare checked receipts for Mac from the phone’s connection screen and transfer the resulting file.
- In Mac Settings → iPhone, preview and import that receipt handoff.
- Export a fresh Mac snapshot and import it on the phone to acknowledge received receipt revisions.
This is manual file exchange, not continuous sync. Preparing a handoff is not proof of delivery. Conflicting or stale records are rejected for review rather than silently overwritten. Use the same Mac library for subsequent handoffs.
Backups and recovery
Create regular backups, especially before importing large batches, resetting data or installing a new beta. Store a separate copy somewhere you trust. Mac Settings shows the backup location and provides a Show in Finder action. iPhone backups are exported through the system share sheet and restore into an empty phone library.
Exports and backups can contain private financial records. Share them only with intended recipients. Uninstalling the iPhone app can remove its local data; export a backup first.
Report an issue
Email the app version and build number, device and operating system, what you were doing and what happened. Use fictional or redacted examples where possible. Please do not send bank statements or receipt images unless needed and agreed.
Current beta boundaries
- No automatic iCloud sync or public App Store release.
- iPhone bank transactions are read-only snapshots from Mac.
- No tax return or BAS lodgement; Australian BAS preparation is cash basis only.
- Tax estimates have year and rule limitations shown in the app.
- The beta is still being tested; keep original records and independent backups.
